Just • Life Talk +Tips 🫶🏽💕 — Mental Health 🧠🩺 • Let’s Talk About It ❕

In honor of Mental Health Awareness month and how we as people struggle with mental health issues especially, the African American community I decided to bring the subject to our "life talk and tips" segment...It's been a while so this is definitely the perfect subject to bring to the table.

What is Mental Health?: Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act, and helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.

🌸 What factors contribute to Mental Health?

- Biology 🧬 such as genes or brain 🧠 chemistry 🧪.

- Different life experiences such as trauma, abuse, etc.

- Family history of mental health problems. Mental health issues can definitely be genetically passed down that's why it's important to know your families medical history and background.

- Habits + Lifestyle such as unhealthy foods, not enough sleep, lack of exercise and poor stress management.

- Substance use can trigger mental health issues such as use of drugs or alcohol 🥃.

- Other facts could be your living environment, especially if it's not the best living environment. Your finances, especially if you're not where you want to be financially, and/or you're struggling. Your health, your social life, and education are other factors as well.

*** Just a heads up I'm not a doctor 👩🏽‍⚕️ nor am I in the medical field. I cannot diagnose you and just because you experience any of these issues/factors doesn't mean you'll develop issues with mental health. Please seek a doctor or a therapist at any time if you need medical help.

🌸 Things that can contribute to your well-being in a positive way —

Appreciating life everyday.

• Getting enough sleep and better sleeping habits.

• Cutting out any unhealthy habits.

• Getting some type of exercise and exercising regularly; maintaining good physical health.

• Maintaing a positive attitude, showing gratitude and saying positive affirmations daily or reading affirmations every morning (hence why I post them daily).

• Building a strong community of support (if you need support from your spiritual community don't hesitate to reach out...I will do the best I can).

• Having healthy relationships around you especially with family and friends.

• Having a job or career that you like/love/enjoy. It should feel rewarding to you.

• Feeling confident and resilient daily. Just overall having a sense of purpose and meaning.

*** This isn't to say that everyday will be peaches 🍑 and cream but this can help ensure you're on the right track to have more good days than bad.

I hope this continues. I am currently in therapy after realizing I was starting to have thoughts of self harming. Seek help! If you can't afford a therapist find a counselor or group therapy.
